apathy babe

The concept of apathy is actually quite a wonderful thing in theory. It allows you to take part in an event without ever feeling the need to show your emotions to anyone else and if you practice apathy enough, you will find yourself shocked at how easily you can go to an event (like a party or dance where almost everyone there is someone you find irritating) and feel nothing. But I occasionally feel like I’m too young to truly experience apathy in full because I should still be enjoying being surrounded by other sweaty pre-teens in a gym that has been converted into a dance floor. And sometimes I really do, but often enough I find myself longing to be taken out of social situations and to just go home and watch Netflix episodes of Freaks and Geeks and I’m not sure why.

I really wanted to explore apathy more and what makes a certain situation unbearable to me but completely normal to others and I tried to find an outfit that conveyed a message of not caring at all.

sweater: thrifted, jeans: gap or something, oxfords: marshalls

I took this photo at school because it’s getting increasingly difficult to take outfit posts at home. I wake up before the sun rises and get home after sunset every weekday so I’m never able to capture natural lighting (oOoOoh I sound like a professional photographer but I’m not).

apathy:
  • the color grey
  • the Smiths
  • Arctic Monkeys -- Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High
  • rainy days
  • in bed all day
  • Starbucks Never mind, if you’re feeling apathetic and need coffee, Starbucks is one of the worst places you could go (second only to Dunkin’ Donuts which is apathetic in a very “I can’t be bothered to completely spell the word dunking" way). Instead, try out a local coffee shop. Look for a seat thats far away from the windows that you won’t be seen but also far away from the doors and other...people. But remember not to look for too long, the key is not caring. Say it with me guys, APATHY! APATHY! A-P-A-T-H-Y!
~ I guess this is goodbye then.

eta: Thanks for all you amazing people leaving your opinions, thoughts, and insights in ~ze comments section~ It was really nice to read. After careful reconsideration (and a school dance that wasn't that bad) I've realized that not all of my classmates are giant bags of ignorant poop in the shape of human beings and that there are some really nice people who I actually can.. show emotion for, and that's pretty cool.

  1. Oh my goodness, are you sure you're just 12? When I was 12, I sounded like a really stupid teeny bopper who liked Justin Bieber (well, I liked him for just a couple of months) (unfortunately) I don't think one is ever too young to experience being apathetic. It's sort of a good and bad thing to be apathetic per se. But I think if you hate the your entire school population (like me, for example) then apathy is a really wonderful thing to feel. It's good practice if you start now but I'm not saying you should if the sweaty pre-teens around you are nice people haha. When you get to high school, you will see that apathy is very handy.

By the way, nice blog! I found your blog through a comment you made on Tavi's last post. When I was reading through it, I couldn't really believe you were actually 12. Anyway, seeing that you're so young and already having quite a mature way of handling words, I decided to fix up my former blogspot and replace it with a new one. (I actually made a blogspot just to comment on this to be honest) (feel honored haha) (or am I just being creepy)

  3. I have to say that I disagree with Patpatkay a bit, HI, PAT, you are awesome and it's a shame I haven't read your other blog for so long (if patpatkay happens to read this).

I think that apathy isn't really a good thing, it is, in fact, quite bad and often serves as a sign of depression. Maybe I am just paranoid as an almost lifelong sufferer of depression and see problems in everything, but, oh my, feeling nothing is so much worse than feeling bad, you don't feel anything, you just exist, no creativity, no interest in even Freaks&Geeks. (OMG!)

On a lighter note, I think that not-caring and being cool is really overrated, it is important to care about things. About things like human rights, animal rights, your future etc. Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away : )

Also, Peanuts + The Smiths is literally the best thing ever. ( I hope this comment wasn't too serious and awkward)

  5. I just discovered your blog and I AM IN LOVE, I wish I was half as cool and intelligent as you when I was your age. I think apathy can be both a good and bad thing, idk I think it's mostly a bad thing, because that disconnect from everything can be very depressing. But it's nice not caring about things sometimes. Everything in moderation, as they say.
